Friday June 22 - Tri City
Speedway - Granite City, ILL
Chris and Rodney Dufur traveled south to meet up with the Mike Crump team to
compete in the UMP weekly event at the Tri City Speedway.
Chris started from the pole of his heat race and raced away from the field to
take the heat win.
Chris lined up 3rd in the dash and struggled early and finished 5th. It was
midseason championship night, so the first 6 starting spots were locked in for
the top 6 cars in track points. Chris lined up 9th for the A-main. At the drop
of the green in the 25 lap event, Chris began to work his way to the front using
the bottom side of the slick race track. Chris nearly had disaster in the early
laps when he clipped one of the large tires lining the inside of the track in
turn 3. It bent the left front spindle a little and made the car harder to turn
through the center of the corner, but Chris was able to race on.
Chris had worked his way to 8th when the caution flew with 15 laps remaining.
Chris raced hard and used lapped traffic to his advantage and slipped into the
5th spot with a handful of laps remaining. The 2nd and 3rd place running cars
got together and went spinning just in front of Chris but he was able to avoid
the trouble and lined up 3rd for the final restart with 3 laps to go.
Chris drove alongside 2nd running Mark Faust and fought hard for the runner up
spot, but came up short at the checkers and had to settle for 3rd. It was a
solid run for us, and the car worked decent.
We can still get better and we are looking forward to our next visit.
