Sunday and Monday May 27-28 - Dubuque Speedway - Dubuque, IA

The rumble on the river 100 WDRL event was next up for us on the weekend. Chris timed in very late in the group qualifying session and ended up a disappointing 23rd fastest. The track had slowed down and the car was too loose for us to turn a fast lap.

Chris lined up in the heat race in the 6th spot knowing he would need to move forward to transfer directly to the 100 lap A-main for Monday night. At the drop of the green, Chris headed into turn one behind Darren Miller when Miller got loose and spun. Chris avoided the spinning Miller and was able to restart in the 5th spot. Chris was racing 5th in the early laps when polesitter Brian Birkhofer pushed high and lost several spots. Chris raced hard with Birkhofer and was finally able to take over the 4th spot in the closing laps to earn the 13th starting spot for the A-main.

On Monday night, the track was looking like it would end up smooth and slick, so we tightened up the car and headed out. Chris avoided some early troubles and had worked his way to the 3rd spot when the 3rd caution flew on lap 20.

On the restart, Chris drove past 2nd place Chad Simpson and began working on Chris Simpson for the lead. Simpson slipped out to a 10 carlength lead on Chris by lap 30. Darren Miller had advanced from the rear of the field and began battling with Chris for the 2nd spot.

He finally made the pass stick after several laps and Chris settled into the 3rd spot. As the laps went on, Brian Birkhofer drove alongside Chris on the outside as Chris worked the extreme low groove. The two engaged in a furious battle for 3rd which lasted nearly 15 laps through heavy traffic before Birkhofer finally eased past Chris. Chris continued to race in the 4th spot all the way up to lap 90.

At that point, the top of the track began to speed up and Chris was passed by Denny Ekrich, Brian Harris and Chad Simpson in the closing laps. Chris was able to take the checkers in the 7th spot.

It was disappointing to lose a top 5 finish in the closing laps, but this was the first 100 lap race we had run in over 3 years and we were racing against some very tough competition.

We are very happy that we are continuing to be more competitive and making the car better and we are definitely excited about the rest of the season.
