The weather finally cooperated and we headed out to Winston, MO to compete in the MLRA event. Chris drew the #1 and started from the pole position in the first heat race.
Chris got the jump on the initial start, but a caution came out before the first lap was complete forcing a complete restart.
On the second try, the engine stumbled and Chris lost the lead entering turn 1 to Alan Vaughn. Chris was a little rusty to say the least, and he struggled to a 4th place finish in the heat. The new car was a little too tight and Chris was overdriving the car in the early laps, and this cost us a good qualifying spot for the A-main.
Chris lined up 13th for the A-main, and the track had become dry slick and shiny.
Chris ran a steady race and had
made his way up to 8th with 5 laps remaining and was racing for 7th when he had
to check up and ended up getting shuffled back to the 9th spot. The car was
decent in the A, but we did not quite get it tightened up enough. Chris got all
the rust shook off, though, and we made it throught the night with the car in
one piece with a top 10 finish. We wanted a better finish, but we will take it
and move on to the next one.
